The markets are flooded with diet pills and magic potions that promise us slim waists overnight. I was amazed to learn that the amount of money we spend on weight loss pills, books, and supplements alone equals millions of dollars every year. I am not a nutrition expert but I wanted to share my experiences regarding diet pills and herbs that do help with weight loss.
Weight Loss Diet Drinks:
A few months back, one of my friend’s mother went on a diet program that advised her to drink supplement shakes twice a day instead of food. When I visited her, she was excited as she explained that she has already lost a few kilos and the supplement shakes she took made her feel fuller for longer periods.
As usual, when it comes to herbal powders, I am very very interested, when I went through the ingredient list, it contained caffeine, artificial colors, and fragrances along with other names I couldn’t pronounce. When I questioned her whether the shakes satisfied her as a food, she just replied that they did not but since she had already paid a lot for the products she was going to continue taking them.
She was also not exercising as the program had promised her weight loss without exercise! What happened next really upset me, though she lost almost close to 10 kilos while taking the powders, she gained every single kilo back and some more. She just lost muscle mass as she was starving herself the whole time. Spending so much on fancy powders made her put on even more weight, just imagine the stress she must have gone through.
If you are planning on taking diet pills and powders, make sure to get to know the ingredients and research well about the product. When we say weight loss, what we mean is fat loss which only happens with regular exercise as it increases muscle mass and calorie controlled diet which helps shed excess fat.
Herbal Weight Loss Drinks:
Certain herbs only speed the process, if we consume just the herbs without regular exercise and a calorie controlled healthy diet, we will never reach our goals. The best herbs to take while trying to lose weight are the ones with wonderful anti-obesity properties. Ingredients like horse gram, garlic, Malabar tamarind, ginger, etc help speed up the fat-burning process.
If you are trying to lose weight and don’t want to take diet supplements and artificial fat burners, try these 3 natural drink recipes. They are safe and in addition to aiding weight loss, they also improve immunity and are full of nutrients…..

3. Garcinia Cambogia (Malabar Tamarind) Fat Burner Drink:
Garcinia Cambodia also called kudampuli has always been recommended for weight loss and garcinia supplements are sold everywhere but I would recommend making your garcinia cambogia drink at home. To make the drink, wash kudampuli well in water to remove any dirt.
Soak it in water for an hour or two, and the color of the water would have changed. Dried kudampuli which is hard also will turn soft. Boil jaggery in water till it is dissolved and then strain to remove any dirt. Add the required amount of soaked kudampuli water to it and boil for a few seconds.
Pound cardamom and dried ginger in a mortar and pestle coarsely. You can also grate in nutmeg if you like, I usually don’t add nutmeg. Add the pounded mixture along with a pinch of salt and switch off. Strain and enjoy your drink.
