Aloe vera juice is getting very popular all over the world for it’s amazing ability to heal the body of so many diseases. It can be both consumed internally and applied externally for face and hair care, it treats all scalp and skin infections very effectively.

It is so very soothing that it can be used even on babies skin and the best thing is it is easily and cheaply available everywhere. Aloe vera juice has been traditionally used for treating stomach problems, hair and skin care, diabetes, acid reflux, constipation, ulcer, pcos related problems, fever and for aiding weight loss.

What is Aloe Vera Juice?

Aloe vera juice is got by grinding the white pulp of aloe vera leaf along with water. Aloe vera juice is slimy and barely has any taste. You can consume it often in moderation and also apply it topically to treat various problems like sunburn, wounds and eczema.

Aloevera juice can be made simply by grinding aloe vera with water or it can be mixed along with other ingredients to make wonderful drinks. I have given all the aloe vera juice recipes that I have tried and liked below.

Aloe Vera Juice Uses

Aloe Vera Juice Traditional Uses:

We have always used aloe vera for external application and I have seen all my family members use it from my young age, my aunt used to rub fresh aloe vera gel daily on her face before bathing. So I have always associated aloe vera as something that is very good for external application.

But few years back, when one of my cousins suffered from white discharge, a distant aunt of mine asked her to consume aloe vera juice in empty stomach for three days and to everyone’s astonishment she was completely relieved of the problem. We also use it for treating stomach ulcers.

I have always been keenly interested in knowing about the benefits aloe vera juice as I have seen first hand how effective it is. Traditionally it is recommended for diabetic patients as it helps reduce high blood sugar levels and also for patients suffering from liver problems.

How To Make Aloe Vera Juice?

Aloe vera juice making is simplicity itself but the only problem many will face when making aloe vera juice is it might turn bitter some times. That is because of the slimy green juice that is found over the aloe vera, if you don’t remove it properly it will make the whole juice bitter.

What I like to do is collect the fresh aloe vera leaf, remove the gel separately without any trace of the green part in it and then wash it under running water to remove any sliminess. You don’t have to do this but ever since I tasted my bitter aloe vera juice that I accidentally made without washing the gel well, I make sure I wash it thoroughly before making the juice. The juice can be made either by simply blending the aloe vera gel with water or by adding spices like ginger to perk it up a bit.

1. For Gastric Problems

If you are suffering from stomach ulcers or irritable bowel syndrome, consider taking aloe vera juice in empty stomach for a few days regularly as it has been proven to help with all gastric problems. It will greatly help ease the discomfort and pain and also help heal the ulcers fast. It has a soothing effect on our stomach and helps treat heartburn and inflammation of the colon.

2. For Constipation

Aloe vera has been used for treating constipation for many years and we get lot of aloe vera based products in the markets for it. The problem with store bought aloe products is they are usually made along with the aloe vera latex which contains anthraquinone which can cause lot of side effects. Instead, I would suggest making the juice only with the gel. Aloe vera juice is an excellent natural remedy for treating constipation but don’t consume more than a cup a day.

3. Natural Detox

We hear the word detox a lot but aloe vera juice is truly a detox drink as it helps with both kidney and liver function, this is due to the high amounts of antioxidants present in it. It also has a protective effect. If you are consuming lot of processed food, consider taking a cup of aloe vera juice weekly twice or thrice regularly.

4. Hydrating

Aloe vera juice is very hydrating as it contains 90% water. Staying hydrated especially in a hot country like India is very very important. Instead of consuming packaged drinks filled with sugar and preservatives, consider drinking pure homemade aloe vera juice. Since it is also nutrient rich and filled with antioxidants, it will also help improve immunity.

5. Skin Care

We use aloe vera juice extensively for skin care, it can be used for treating sunburn, wounds, acne and also for reducing skin inflammation. We usually extract fresh aloe vera juice and mix it with ingredients like besan or rice flour and apply as a face pack. You can also use it in face serums and as a base for face gels and face creams.

6. For Hair Care

Aloe vera helps reduce inflammation and is one of the best ingredients for treating scalp inflammation. We usually mix it with neem powder and apply as a pack, it helps nourish the scalp along with promoting hair growth. I regularly use aloe vera juice in hair care preparations like homemade hair conditioner, hair serum and hair packs, you can find all the recipes here.

Though Aloe vera juice is very good, consuming it in large quantities has some side effects like intestinal discomfort and diarrhoea. Pregnant women and breast feeding mothers should definitely not take aloe vera juice on a regular basis for longer periods of time.

If you are taking medications like for thyroid or diabetes, taking the juice once or twice a week is fine but it is best to consult a doctor before consuming aloe vera juice regularly for months together.

When making aloevera juice make sure to clean the gel of the green latex. If you make the juice along with the latex it can cause lot of side effects like stomach pain and rashes due to anthraquinone present in it.
